St Jarlath’s College, Tuam, crashed out of the race for the school’s first Hogan Cup title since 2002 when they were defeated by St Mary’s Edenderry by 1-12 to 1-06 on Saturday at Pearse Park.
The damage was done to the Blues’ dream of another All-Ireland final clash at Croke Park in the first half when they were outplayed and were 0-11 to 1-2 down at the break.
An early goaled penalty by the impressive Daniel Flynn, who lined out with the Kildare u-21s this year, left Jarlath’s with a mountain to climb.
With St Mary’s playing a few extra players at the back for the last 20 minutes, space was at a premium. Despite that, the Tuam lads had at least three good chances of goals which were missed. Had they taken even one of them, it would have made for an interesting final quarter.
Edenderry, who are a very well balanced and hard-working side, will face St Michael’s (Enniskillen ) in the final.
