THEY PLAY folk rock, gypsy-swing, and a bit of hip-hop. You can see them at Kelly’s Window Sessions gig, and some of the members busking flamboyantly on our city streets.
They are Mikey and The Scallywags and they will play a gig upstairs in Kelly’s, Bridge Street, on Thursday April 5 at 9pm, where they will launch their debut EP Living In The Light.
The Scallywags, led by singer Mikey McCrory, formed in 2010 performing their first concert on the Village Hall Stage at the Electric Picnic. Since then they have been touring the length and breadth of the country.
Audiences can expect a lively, perhaps even theatrical set, and a style of folk music that is not afraid to mix it up with other genres.
“All of us are multi-instrumentalists and come from various backgrounds in folk, bluegrass, Gypsy, trad, hip hop, rock, swing, metal, and prog rock,” says Mikey. “We have used elements of all these traditions in our own unique blend of original storytelling songs that derive from personal experiences and vivid imagination.”
The band plan to record a full length album this summer. Check out their music at www.soundcloud.com/mikey-and-the-scallywags Admission is €7 and includes a free copy of the EP on entry. For more information contact 091 - 563804
