Galway women are being urged to become move involved in politics and to consider running for the upcoming local and EU elections by new organisation Women for Election.
Women for Election seeks to create a balanced participation of women and men in political life; to inspire and equip women to enter politics; and to provide practical solutions to help more women get on election tickets.
The group launched its Inspire Programme in Dublin recently. The programme is coming to Galway in July and will cover the specific challenges women face in political life; issues such as campaigning, communications, confidence, and resilience; and to “ demystify campaign strategy and make politics accessible to women who have not yet considered it”.
“We all know great women in every community around Galway who are leaders in their own right,” said Women for Election co-founder Niamh Gallagher. “These are the exact women we want on our Inspire Programme.
“Yet our research shows that the majority of women wait until they are asked to run. That is why we are appealing to everyone to formally ask women they know and have confidence in to consider running for election via our website www.womenforelection.ie”
