Hurlers face Tipperary in Thurles

The Galway senior hurlers are aiming to continue the good form they showed in their first-round victory over Dublin when they take on Tipperary this Sunday in Semple stadium.

The bookies have installed the home side as the 2/5 favourites with Anthony Cunningham’s team available at 9/4.

The team is due to be announced this evening after training, but Joe Canning, Andy Smyth and Kevin Hynes are still on the injured list.

Team selector Mattie Kenny expects a tough battle on Sunday.

“We were pleased with the work-rate and application the lads showed against Dublin and we will need more of the same on Sunday. Tipperary lost to Kilkenny, 2-17 to 0-15, in the first round and we expect them to be really revved up for us on home ground.

"We look forward to meeting that challenge head on. We don’t expect anything easy, nor do we want anything soft. Lads are going well at training and we need to see how they stand up to the best teams in competitive fare. Sunday will be another chance to assess them and we are going down to try to get a win.”

In Nowlan Park last Sunday an All-Galway provincial side went down to Leinster in the Railway Cup final on a score-line of 2-19 to 1-15, after trailing by 2-13 to 0-8 at half time.
