New president for Skål Club of Galway

Westwood Hotel general manager Dave Kelly is the new president of Skål International Galway, the organisation for tourism leaders.

Succeeding Dan Murphy of the Galway Bay Hotel after two years at the helm, Mr Kelly comes to the presidency with 15 years’ experience in the hotel and tourism sector.

A graduate of hotel management at DIT, Mr Kelly first came to Galway in 1996 and was part of the new team when the Westwood Hotel, owned by the Sweeney Group, was opened. He is now in his sixth year as general managaer

Skål International Galway is one of eight Skål clubs in Ireland which operate under the Skål International umbrella - a professional organisation of tourism leaders around the world, promoting global tourism and friendship. It is the only international group uniting all branches of the travel and tourism industry. Skål International has approximately 20,000 members in 450 clubs throughout 85 nations.

Skål International Galway is currently one of the largest in Ireland with an active social calendar that over the past year has seen it twin with the Skål Club of Chicago and host an appreciation evening for John Killeen in recognition of his work in bringing the Volvo Ocean Race to Galway. Skål International Galway will host the National Convention in Galway city in March 2013.

Membership of Skål is open to managers or executives involved in tourism management, sales and promotions in specified travel and tourism businesses, including transportation (airlines, cruise lines, railways, ferries ), travel and tour operators, tourism organisations, governments and non-government tourism councils, hotels, convention centres and travel media. Young Skål is open to junior executives and tourism students entering the industry.
