Dónal Lunny Galway/Palestine Children’s Charity Concert

DÓNAL LUNNY, one of the greatest driving forces in Irish folk and trad, is coming to Galway to play a charity concert for the Galway/Palestine Children’s Appeal charity.

The concert will take place on Sunday at 8pm in the Radisson Blu Hotel and will see Dónal joined on-stage by the great Máirtin Ó Connor, as well as harpist Siobhán Armstrong and singer Róisín Elsafty, as well as Rónan Brown, Eoin Ó Néill, and Harry Bradley. Other acts are expected to confirm their participation soon.

On March 23 Dónal will be part of a Galway/Palestine Children’s Appeal delegation travelling to war-torn Gaza. The object of the trip will be to show solidarity with the Palestinian people by starting projects that will benefit the traumatised children of Gaza.

Dónal will be setting up one such scheme involving music. The former Planxty and Bothy Band musician has been a long-standing supporter of this children’s charity. Other projects to be supported by the charity will involve teaching children journalist skills, including the importance of using a camera. Galway based journalist, Raidio na Gaeltachta’s Eibhlín Ní Chonghaile, will also be part of the delegation and partake in the project.

Since January 2009 little or no aid has been allowed into Gaza, despite promises of donations from the international community. As a result the people of Gaza are suffering long shortages of electricity, gas, other fuels, as well as food and essential medical supplies.

Tickets for the concert are €20/€10 and will be available on the door on the night. Donations to the Galway/Palestine Children’s Appeal can be made to Allied Irish Bank, Tuam Road, Galway, Sort Code 93-74-52, A/C number 03910-029
