Ardrahan aim for All-Ireland camogie glory

This Sunday at 1pm in Croke Park the camogie players of Ardrahan are hoping to win the All-Ireland intermediate club title when they take on Eoghan Rua (Derry ).

The panel has trained consistently hard for the last 13 months under coach Alan Keane, a former All-Ireland winner with Galway footballers, and manager Bernard Forde, who won a Celtic Cross in 1980 with Galway.

Forde believes his squad is in good shape.

“Eoghan Rua won this title last year and they are a very good side. However our girls have never been as fit and the mood in our camp is top class. Alan [Keane] came on board last year as coach and he is a terrific addition to the club. Alongside our other two selectors, Marita Healy and Seán Bermingham, everything that could be done has been done to get a win this Sunday.”

Ardrahan possess considerable talent down the middle of the field.

Charlotte Murphy is at full-back, Aoife Lynskey is at number six, while Aoife Callanan and Edel Holland are at midfield. Shauna Healy and Brenda Kerins are at centre-forward and full forward respectively

“Apart from Rebecca Hennelly [cruciate], who is a long term injury, we have a full squad to pick from which is terrific. We beat Liosmore [Waterford )]by two points in the semi-final and we performed well. We will need to play to that level and more if we are to get a win on Sunday.

“There is very little between teams at this stage of the competition and it often comes down to which side turns up on the day. We are really looking forward to the game and, if we play to our potential, I have no doubt that we will have the All-Ireland cup in Bradleys, our club’s main sponsor, next week.”
