Man pleads not guilty to threatening woman with knife

A man has pleaded not guilty to the charge of brandishing a knife at a shopping centre car park and threatening a woman with it.

Andrzej Mackowski (60 ) with an address at Carr’s House, Ballindooley, Headford Road, Galway, appeared before Galway District court on Monday where he entered a plea of not guilty to the charge of making a threat to Iwona Mackowska intending it would be carried out, to kill, or to cause serious harm, contrary to Section 5 of the Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act and possession of a fold-up knife intended for use for an unlawful purpose, to wit threatening the same woman and putting her in fear at Galway Shopping Centre, Headford Road, on August 8, 2011, Section 9(5 ) of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act 1990.

At a previous court sitting the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed that the matter could be dealt with summarily in the district court on a plea of guilty only. The accused was then remanded on continuing bail.

When the case resumed this week Mackowski enter his plea of not guilty resulting in the matter being adjoured further. He was further remanded on continuing bail to appear at Galway District Court on March 21 next for service of the book of evidence.
