Support Galway entry for RTÉ Storyland competition

GALWAY HAS a chance to support its own local comedy and acting talent by getting behind a new show airing through RTÉ’s Storyland competition.

Student Teacher, written and directed by Athenry native Giles Brody, is about a gifted youngster named Conor Shaw, who leaves school when he is 15 to get a teaching degree and finds the only job he can get in his old school, teaching his old classmates who all hate him.

The cast features Conor O’Toole as Conor Shaw; Athenry’s Neil Molloy (Republic of Telly ); Kevin McGahern (Hardy Bucks ); and Carol Tobin (Savage Eye ).

The show was shot in Athenry and at the Presentation College Athenry. The show is produced by Spire Productions, which is based in Renmore. Music for the show was composed by Tuam singer-songwriter Brian Kelly (aka So Cow ).

Student Teacher is one of eight shows to be selected for Storyland and is the only one from Connacht. The shows are available through RTE online and the public has until this Sunday to vote. The top six get a second episode and the bottom two get ejected from the competition.

Those behind Student Teacher are calling on the Galway public for their support and to vote for them on www.rte.ie/storyland “As the only competitor in the competition from Connacht we’re really counting on local support to help us,” said Giles Brody. “We are screening the show in various schools and we’ve a stand-up tour of Irish universities organised for next week.”

The public can also ‘Like’ the show’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/Studentteachershow and check out a video for Student Teacher on YouTube.
