Charity open mic night @ Monroe’s

A CHARITY open mic night to raise funds for the children's ‘Terremoto’ soccer club in Montevideo, Uruguay, takes place this Saturday in Monroe’s Live.

The event is being organised between Galway students and the Galway Voice Studio. Some 20 singers will be performing on the night and there will be a raffle with lots of prizes.

“The Terremoto soccer u14 teams are based close to my home barrio, Villa Espanola, in Montivedeo,” says Andres Martorell of the Galway Voice Studio.

“Many children in that part of the city live in poverty, but they find moment of happiness when playing soccer and soccer keeps children off the streets, promotes healthy living, and gives many a profession for their futures.”

Full sports equipment for a team of 12 children costs €300 and all the money raised from Saturday’s event will be used to buy clothes and sports equipment for the team.

Admission is €5. Doors are at 8.30pm.
