Williamstown man is named on BNP membership list

The recently leaked list of members of the far right British National Party includes one member located in north Galway, it emerged last night.

The man, whose name is among thousands of BNP members whose names, addresses, and contact details were published online this week, is understood to be originally from the UK but living in Williamstown for the past number of years.

The man who is semi-retired and from the south of England moved to the village some time ago.

His full name and current address are contained online, in a list which also showed that a second BNP member is listed as being a member of the Black Watch regiment, whose address is given as Palace Barracks in Holywood.

The British Army today confirmed he had left the barracks late last year and said soldiers were free to join political groups.

The party is one of the most controversial political organisations in the UK, due to its anti-immigration stance and whites only membership policy.

A spokesman for the group in the North said it has advised members to increase their personal security over fears of attack.
