Comedian Steve Hughes @ Róisín Dubh

HEAVY METAL fan Steve Hughes once was a drummer in a band, but then he decided to step out centre-stage, not as a singer, but as a comedian.

It was a good move as the Australian has enjoyed a great career with his blend of laid-back charm and caustic anti-establishment humour receiving rave reviews and leading to appearances on the BBC’s Michael McIntyre’s Roadshow and Channel 4’s Stand Up For The Week. Now comes his debut solo tour which takes in the Róisín Dubh on Wednesday at 8.30pm.

The Guardian has praised his comedy, saying: “Acutely observed and cutting bone-deep. Steve delves into gutsier territory – racism, terrorism, homophobia – with an honesty and openness rarely seen among comics. His insights are spot-on, his opinions are intelligent and his jokes are top class.”

Support is from Glenn Wool. Monty will be DJing afterwards. Tickets are available from the Róisín Dubh and www.roisindubh.net
