FAI and IRFU must follow GAA JobBridge example says McNelis

The FAI and IRFU must follow the GAA’s example after the Gaelic games organisation provided some 200 internships through the Government’s JobBridge initiative.

This is the view of Labour councillor Niall McNelis who said the GAA’s action showed that there is “great potential for clubs and organisations in Galway city and county to follow this lead”.

Cllr McNelis said the GAA is offering a variety of internships in IT, marketing and promotions, and fixtures programming, as well as the opportunity to work in one of Ireland’s oldest sporting institutions.

“I’m sure these internships will be of interest to a lot of jobseekers,” he said. “Placements are available to work in Croke Park as well as in provincial councils and county boards across Ireland.”

He is now calling on the FAI and the IRFU to follow the example set by the GAA.

“Schemes such as JobBridge and the Jobs Initiative are clear signs that this Government is taking this task very seriously,” Cllr McNelis said. “I will be continuing to work with my colleagues in Government to ensure practical schemes can be put in place to not only offer training, but also stimulate the creation of local jobs.”
