CEO of Enterprise Ireland to give science and technology careers talk in GMIT

The CEO of Enterprise Ireland, Frank Ryan, will give a talk on careers in the indigenous science and technology sectors on Tuesday next in GMIT’s Theatre 1000 at 2pm. The talk, titled ‘Ireland — The Comeback Economy’, is organised by the Galway Science and Technology Festival.

This talk aims to increase the uptake and popularity of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and maths ) subjects among young people and highlight the job opportunities that are available to students with qualifications in these subjects. Senior cycle secondary school students, third level students, parents, workers, and anyone interested are invited to attend.

“The committee are delighted to welcome Frank Ryan to Galway and we encourage young people to take advantage of this opportunity and become aware of the many job opportunities available in the science, technology, and engineering sectors,” said Galway Science & Technology Festival chairman, Tom Hyland.

This year a mentoring programme by local engineers is available to senior cycle students looking for career advice. In conjunction with Galway Science and Technology Festival, engineers from 11 different Galway companies participating in this initiative will visit schools and talk to the students about their subject choices, give practical career advice, and share their work experience.
