Druid starts the year with award nominations

Galway’s Druid Theatre Company has received three nominations in this year’s Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards.

Druid’s production of John B Keane’s Big Maggie received two nominations; Aisling O’Sullivan (Best Actress ) for her role as Maggie Polpin and John Olohan (Best Supporting Actor ) for his role as Byrne.

The third nomination went to Dearbhla Molloy and Ingrid Craigie (jointly nominated Best Supporting Actress ) for their roles as Eileen and Kate in The Cripple of Inishmaan by Martin McDonagh.

Druid co-founder Marie Mullen was also nominated (Best Actress ) for her role as Woman in Testament by Colm Tóibín, and directed by Garry Hynes. The show was a Dublin Theatre Festival and Landmark co-production.

Big Maggie returns to the Town Hall Theatre next week, although the entire run is already sold out. Those keen to see it before the tour finishes can catch it at the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin, from January 31 to February 11.
