Reduced car parking charges start on Saturday

The reduced car parking charges in car parks run by the Galway City Council, come into effect this Saturday.

The new charges, which were agreed at the council’s Annual Budget Meeting in December, will see reductions in both on the street and in off-street car parks run by the local authority.

In effect, this means that short-term parking will reduce from €2.60 per hour to €2 per hour and all-day parking in the long-term car parks on the Dyke Road, College Road, and in Cathedral Square will fall in price to €4 per day from €5.

The schedule of new charges for on-street parking is €0.50 for 15 minutes; €1 for 30 minutes; €2 for one hour; and €4 for two hours (maximum stay ) from Mondays to Saturdays from 8.30pm to 6.30pm.

For off-street long term car parks - Dyke Road (part ), College Road, and Cathedral car parks, the daily rate is €4 from Mondays to Saturdays from 8.30pm to 6.30pm.

For off-street short term car parks - Dyke Road (part ), Bowling Green, and Mill Street car parks, the hourly rate is €2 from Mondays to Saturdays from 8.30pm to 6.30pm.
