Furbo based Magamedia has been nominated for no fewer than five IFTA awards for its drama Corp + Anam, which was shot in Galway city and appeared on TG4 last year to critical acclaim.
Corp + Anam was nominated in the Best TV Drama category while the show’s writer, Knocknacarra based Darach Mac Con Iomaire, was nominated for Best Writer.
Acting nominations were received by the drama’s two leads, Diarmuid de Faoite and Maria Doyle Kennedy. Diarmuid, who is based in Galway, also appears on Ros na Rún. Maria Doyle Kennedy is best known for her roles in The Commitments, Dexter, and the Tudors. Corp + Anam is her first Irish speaking role. The show was also nominated for the Best Irish Language Programme Award.
The awards ceremony will take place on February 11 in Dublin’s Convention Centre and will be broadcast live on RTÉ television
Corp + Anam producer Paddy Hayes is delighted with the nominations. “It’s great to see Irish language productions standing shoulder to shoulder with the best of national and international films and television programmes,” he said. “We are finally getting the credit we deserve.”
