Garda car crashes while escorting cash-in-transit van

Two members of An Garda Siochana were brought to hospital after their patrol car, which had been escorting a cash-in-transit vehicle, crashed near Gort yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services arrived at the scene of the single vehicle crash which took place at around 3.30pm at Kiltartan, close to a level crossing and about one mile outside the town of Gort. The two gardai, who were travelling in the patrol car, were taken to hospital with Galway Garda Station confirming this was a precautionary measure and that there were “no injuries”.

It is understood that the patrol car had been escorting a cash-in-transit van which then had to await the arrival of a replacement patrol car to continue on its journey. The incident is being described as an accident, and is not being treated as suspicious. No further details were available for operational reasons.
