Cloud computing for beginners at GMIT

Cloud computing is where software applications, processing power, data, and potentially even artificial intelligence are accessed over the internet. Many private individuals now regularly use an online email application such as gmail, Yahoo Mail, or Hotmail. Exchanging messages and sharing photos and video on social networking sites such as Facebook is now also very common. However these types of cloud computing activities are just the beginning. Indeed, it is likely that within a couple of years the vast majority of personal home and business computing will be internet based.

Bookings are now being taken for a new computers for beginners course (including cloud computing ) to be run in GMIT. This course is ideally suited to those people who want to get the most out of their home computer/laptop. Dr Bob has updated and improved this course to cover all the necessary computer skills required by an employee working in an office or small business environment. This new course also covers an introduction to the use of cloud computing in the home.

This new and improved computers for beginners course will start on Monday February 6 at 7pm or Thursday February 9 at 7pm. The lecturer and course director is Dr Robert J Loughnane who has specially prepared this course for those people who have little or no previous knowledge of cloud computing or the internet. This course will also cover all aspects of basic computing in the home. Dr Bob will also be discussing the advantages and pitfalls of social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook. Each course participant will be shown how to make a Skype call during the course.

The new cost of the course is €150 per person. The course will run over eight weeks each Monday or Thursday (7pm to 10pm ) and places are limited on both evenings. Book early to avoid disappointment.
