Have you ever imagined telling a story in film, acting in your own movie, being a producer, or learning about photography and script? Your wishes can come true by attending a specially designed cinema club for girls (12 to 14 years of age ) in Ros Geal University Residence, No 19 University Road, Galway, from January 14 for eight weeks.
“This course is designed to encourage creative film-making and open up an interest in the world of image,” said Helen Heydt, the course director and a talented script writer. Ms Heydt has a degree in communications studies, is passionate about film-making and has worked with international television networks.
During the course each session will focus on a key aspect of film-making — script writing, casting, photography, location, filming, editing, etc. Students will see short films and learn about how they are constructed, how the different characters are portrayed, and how the different skills of producer, director, editor, and camera-man interplay. The final event of the course will be the premiere of the film to which family and friends will be invited.
The cost is €100 with a booking fee of €40. Places are limited to 15 to ensure that each student can try the different techniques, so it is recommended that you book early to secure your place.
Ros Geal is a female student residence for third-level students run by Brosna Educational Centres Ltd.
