So begins the ‘Major-General’s Song’ the best know song from Gilbert & Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance and perhaps the most famous song the duo ever wrote.
Galwegians will get a chance to hear this legendary number as part of a special performance of the Pirates of Penzance by the Galway Youth Orchestra on Saturday January 7 at 8pm in the Bailey Allen Hall, NUI, Galway. The concert is to launch GYO’s 30th anniversary year.
The concert will be conducted by Michael Dooley and feature singers Sandra Schalks, Kenneth Long, Daithí Ryder, Gerry Ferguson, Brian Raftery, and Emma English. The chorus will be sung by the Tribal Chamber Choir, directed by Mark Keane. The narrator will be Peter Berrill.
