Galway Garda 3-10
Erriccson (Roscommon ) 1-4
Fresh from their success in the Galway county final, the Galway Garda have qualified for the Connacht Interfirms Junior Football Championship decider when they had 12 points to spare over an understrength Erriccson side at Ballyforan on Tuesday evening.
While the Garda were also short a number of regulars, they had too much fire power for their Roscommon opponents.
Erriccson did enjoy a dream start when full forward Des O Ceallaigh goaled in the opening minute. And although it took the Galway boys time to find their feet, they hit the front for the first time when Shane Waldron fired home the Garda’s first goal in the 13th minute. Beginning to play with confidence, Garda struck for a second goal - this time from Pat Kelly which had the Garda six clear at the interval.
The second half was all Garda. Points from Seamus Mc Donnell (2 ), Pauric O’Connor (2 ), and Shane Fitzmaurice in the opening seven minutes of the second half put the game out of Erriccson’s reach. Pauric Kelly scored his second goal of the match seven minutes from time to wrap up victory for the Galway boys. They now meet their Garda counterparts from Sligo in the Connacht final.
