This Saturday Druid will present a free public reading of the play The Chooky Brae, by the acclaimed Scottish writer DC Jackson in the Druid Lane Theatre at 12 noon.
The cast for the reading will be Andrew Bennett, Gavin Drea, Catherine Walsh, and Laurence Kinlan. It will be directed by Garry Hynes.
The Chooky Brae is a comedy about love, duty, and free-range fowl. Set on Christmas Day in Stewarton, Scotland, Irene Gordon is struggling to get into the festive spirit.
Her 18-year-old daughter’s had a baby, her ex-husband’s had a stroke, and her eldest son’s having a break down. If this was a wonderful life she would receive angelic intervention - instead she gets pot, infidelity, and an escaped chicken that will not be stuffed.
DC Jackson is a Glasgow based writer and The Chooky Brae is the third part of a trilogy of plays which includes The Wall and The Ducky. DC is currently under commission to the National Theatre of Scotland and is adapting The Marriage of Figaro for the Royal Lyceum Theatre.
