Guide published on new legislation affecting apartment owners

The Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI ) has launched a guide to new legislation on apartment ownership, outlining how the law will affect developers and owners.

The organisation, which represents the amalgamation of members from the Irish Auctioneers & Valuers Institute (IAVI ) and the Society of Chartered Surveyors (SCS ), has published the Consumer Guide to Apartment Ownership under the Multi-Unit Developments (MUD ) Act 2011.

Ronan Rooney of Rooney auctioneers & chartered surveyors is a committee member of the organisation’s western branch and also of the National Property & Facilities Management Professional Group.

Mr Rooney believes that the regulation of this sector is of crucial importance.

The consumer guide covers the new conditions and obligations on developers, dispute resolution measures, and the rights and responsibilities of owners’ management companies and directors required by the MUD Act, which directly affect the common areas of the development and, consequently, the value of the properties in the development.

The guide can be downloaded at http://www.scsi.ie/mudguide
