Wheelchair basketball rolls west

The first competitive wheelchair basketball games to be held west of the Shannon take place this weekend in Galway.

Titan Wheelers, the adult wheelchair team at Titans Basketball Club, are hosting three division one National League games at Westside Community Centre on Sunday (11am ).

This is the first year Titan Wheelers have played at national level and they are currently mid table in the competition.

Six teams will compete in round four. Limerick play Clonaslee in the opening game at 11am, followed by Titan Wheelers and Munster Dynamos at 1pm. The final game pits table-toppers Killester from Dublin against Ardee at 3pm.

Titans see this as an opportunity to showcase the talents of wheelchair-bound people and hope to encourage others with mobility issues to participate and compete nationally if they wish. It is hoped a large crowd will give their support to the home team in their first competitive outing at home. Titan Wheelers train every Wednesday night in Westside Community Centre at 8.30pm and new members are welcome.
