The effects of Budget 2012 on rural Ireland will be the subject of a public meeting in Gullane’s Hotel, Ballinasloe, this Monday.
The meeting will be held by Fianna Fáil deputy leader Éamon Ó Cuív, who has described the Budget as containing “anti-rural measures”, and he is encouraging the public to attend.
“People are deeply worried about a series of cuts being made by this Government that will disproportionately affect rural communities,” said Dep Ó Cuív.
“Under this Government’s plans we will see the closure of rural Garda stations, small rural schools, smaller courthouses, and community hospital beds. This, along with the fact that rural dwellers will soon face discriminatory charges and costs contained in the Septic Tank Bill.”
Dep Ó Cuív said the meeting will give the public an opportunity to air their concerns and have their questions answered about what the legislation will mean for them.
