Egyptian family fun in Tóraíocht an Yummy Mummy

DR STANLEY and his friend Ollie are on the cusp of discovering the lost tomb of Hatchetsoup, but an evil priest, a man eater, and a pharaoh’s curse stand in their way. What will they do? What will happen?

This is Tóraíocht an Yummy Mummy, this year’s An Taibhdhearc pantomime. It will be staged in the Black Box Theatre from Wednesday November 26 to Sunday 30 at 8pm with matinees on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 at 1pm.

The panto was written by Dick Byrne - his 15th for An Taibhdhearc - and it will be directed by the distinguished Irish actors Éamonn Draper. The music is by Máire Stafford who has based the songs for the show on ABBA standards.

Dr Stanley and Ollie, two intrepid explorers in the Indiana Jones mould, are in Egypt searching for the tomb of the notorious female Pharaoh Hatchetsoup, who in her day was an evil and dangerous woman.

They have found a map locating the lost tomb but there are numerous ‘baddies’ like High-Priest Kino and Ali Fliknife who are determined to stop Stanley and Ollie so they can have the treasure for themselves.

There is the lovely man-hungry Ellie who takes a shine to one of the boys, and a motley collection of weird and wonderful followers. There is also a curse on anybody who moves the bones of Hatchetsoup, which leads to lots of funny and slightly scary situations.

The show is aimed at children of all ages and the cast includes Maidhc P Ó Conaola, Séamus Ó hAodha, Máire Bhreathnach, Linda Bhreathnach, Micheál Ó hAinnín, Gail Curry, Tara Breathnach, Seán Mac Giollarnáth, Gerry Ferguson, and others.

Tickets are €15/10/5 and are available from the Town Hall on 091 - 569777.
