Merlin Property, Ireland’s first Irish owned property auction house, held its first auction last week in the Burlington Hotel, Dublin. Bruce Murphy, independent property consultant, previously of Sherry Fitzgerald, Savills, and Ross McParland, acted as auctioneer at the event. Bidding came from the floor, through online and telephone as the auction was streamed live on the Merlin Property website.
Seven residential properties and two commercial properties went under the hammer with a sale agreed for four of the properties, with three still under negotiation and two withdrawn due to low bids.
The company also announced that the next Merlin Property auction will take place on Tuesday March 20 2012 at 5pm in the Burlington Hotel, Dublin.
“We were very happy with today’s auction,” said David Byrne, managing director of Merlin Group, after the event. “The numbers of properties were small but we have had so many enquiries in the run up to this that we predict there may be up to 40 properties in the next auction on March 20. All these properties were from private sellers. In the future we also hope to auction properties from financial institutions.”
One of the lots in last week’s auction, which featured residential, commercial, and industrial properties around the country, was a three bedroom detached house at Lodge 76, Clifden Glen, Clifden, Co Galway. The property, which had a reserve price of €69,000, is still under active negotiation after securing bids up to €58,000. This three bed detached residence was valued two years ago at approximately €205,000.
This spacious three-bed lodge is in the perfect location with white coral beaches, cliffs, picturesque fishing harbours, and low lying bogs in the vicinity. To the northeast the region is dominated by the Twelve Bens and Maamturk mountain ranges, and Killary Fjord. The area includes Connemara National Park, the famous salmon fisheries of the Erriff and Delphi, and the offshore island of Inishbofin. The property is surrounded by a host of amenities and facilities, all of which are outlined on the development’s own website www.clifdenglen.net Holiday rental can yield from €250 per week to €750 per week in peak times.
