Current Galway football chairman John Joe Holleran is due to face a challenge for his position at the football board convention tonight (Thursday ) in Loughgeorge.
Current vice chairman Michael Ruane of Monivea-Abbey has been nominated for the position by the Carna-Caiseal club.
Holleran is aiming to stay in the hot seat of Galway football for his fifth year.
There has been unrest in Galway football over the past few seasons and Holleran is seen by many as the man who oversaw the appointments of both Joe Kernan and Tomás Ó Flatharta as Galway senior managers.
It is believed Ruane has garnered considerable support for his nomination, but he and those who support his nomination will know Holleran will not be easily beaten.
Paddy Sweeney has also been nominated as vice-chairman.
