An event to highlight the obstacles people with disabilities encounter every day in Galway takes place this weekend.
The event, billed as a ‘Public Awareness Speakout, To End Exclusion’ takes place this Saturday at 1pm beside the Oscar Wilde statue on Shop Street. It coincides with the last day of National Accessibility Week.
Margaretta D’Arcy and John Arden are involved in To End Exclusion and Ms D’Arcy said the event is to “highlight and demonstrate the obstacles people with disabilities, particularly the visually impaired and the wheelchair users, have to encounter every day – pavement kerbs, potholes, cobble-stones, access to public toilets, access to buses, and many more.”
According to Ms D’Arcy, there are more than 1,000 elderly people in wheelchairs in Galway, as well as 90 children.
