Fred Johnston launches new short story collection

GALWAY WRITER Fred Johnston will launch his new collection of short stories Dancing In The Asylum next week.

Dancing In The Asylum, published by Parthian, will be launched in Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop, Middle Street, at 6pm on Thursday December 1.

The collection features incidents of paying for friendship, angry knicker-flashing at ex-pats, and gay cruising at a medieval carnival. These short stories introduce us to a host of fascinating characters. Sometimes funny, occasionally grotesque, always poignant, these pieces paint an unexpected portrait of a place and its people in a time of great change, each page unfolding a delicate or deliciously devious secret.

Fred is an award winning writer, poet, critic, and musician. He founded the Cúirt festival and co-founded The Irish Writers’ Co-operative. He has published four novels, eight collections of poetry, and has had three plays performed.

Fred will be reading from his work at the launch and all are welcome to attend. There will also be a complimentary glass of wine.
