Leading pianist Alexej Gorlatch to perform in NUIG

ALEXEJ GORLATCH, described by The New York Times as a “remarkably talented pianist” and by The Irish Times as a musician “who can take you into areas others just can’t reach” is coming to Galway.

Alexej, from the Ukraine, will play the Aula Maxima, NUI Galway next Wednesday at 8pm. Entering the University of Arts in Berlin at the age of 12, within a decade Alexej had a trophy cabinet jam-packed with awards, including First Prize at the prestigious Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in Japan, First Prize at the Dublin International Piano competition, and Silver Medal at the Leeds Piano competition.

In Galway he will perform Chopin’s Polonaise-Fantasie op 61, 4 Mazurkas op 67, Scherzo op 31 in B flat minor, 4 Mazurkas op 68, as well as Beethoven’s Sonata op 2, no 1 in F minor and Bill Whelan’s The Currach.
