Proper parking is theme for National Accessibility Week

Illegal and inconsiderate parking and the difficulties and access issues raised by parking on footpaths and blocking entrances will be at the centre of National Accessibility Week in Galway.

The Galway City Council’s National Accessibility Week Campaign will be officially launched by the Mayor of Galway Hildegarde Naughton, tomorrow at 11am in the Council Chamber in City Hall.

The theme of the week will be ‘Park Right’. Parking illegally on the footpath effectively forces people with disabilities, wheelchair users, parents with pushchairs, older people, the visually impaired, and all pedestrians onto the roadway and into traffic. The campaign is seeking to change motorists’ attitudes in this regard.

The event in City Hall will include the launch of the Galway Centre for Independent Living’s Leader Forum and the opening of an art exhibition titled Tá muid in ann. All artists involved are local people with disabilities and it will run for the following week in City Hall
