West of Ireland heart and stroke charity Croí is seeking people to take part in its next expedition to the Roof of Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro, in June 2012.
Acclaimed mountaineer and adventurer Gavin Bate will give an illustrated presentation on Wednesday December 7 at 7.30pm at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Athlone. All are welcome and admission is free.
Mr Bate will share his experiences of climbing Kilimanjaro more than 40 times to date across all seasons. He will also give an account of his recent summit of Mount Everest. This is a rare chance to hear firsthand the fascinating story of a man’s personal battle with Everest and the vast experience he has gained on Kilimanjaro and many of the world’s most famous mountains.
Announcing details of the forthcoming Kilimanjaro challenge Croí’s events and challenges manager Enda Kennedy says the charity is delighted to be able to offer Kilimanjaro as part of its events programme for 2012.
“In preparation for Kilimanjaro Croí will provide a range of training walks and climbs which will include a climb of Ireland’s highest mountain Carrauntoohill.”
