Cancer Care West will host a very special evening of literature and music with award-winning author and playwright Colm Tóibín, an extraordinary array of music from 3/Triúr, featuring world renowned fiddle player Martin Hayes, virtuoso musician and composer Peadar O Riada and exciting young fiddle player Caoimhín O Raghallaigh and a public interview with Colm Tóibín and Martin Hayes. The event will take place on Saturday November 26 at the Radisson Live Lounge, Galway at 8pm. Doors will open at 7pm.
This unique event, presented by Cancer Care West, continues the charity’s association with the arts following last year’s hugely successful evening with Seamus Heaney and Contempo String Quartet. All proceeds from the evening will go towards residential and cancer support services provided by the west of Ireland cancer charity. Speaking about the event Cancer Care West CEO, Richard Flaherty, commented, “We are delighted to be the beneficiary charity of this very special event and I am most grateful to Colm Tóibín and 3/Triúr for the contribution they are giving to Cancer Care West. The outstanding talent of Colm Tóibín, Martin Hayes, Peadar O’ Riada and Caoimhín O’ Raghallaigh combined guarantees an evening filled with enjoyment for literature and music lovers alike.”
The evening will begin with a reading from Colm Tóibín from his book Mothers and Sons followed by music from 3/Triúr. Mr Tóibín will then read from Brooklyn followed by some more delightful music from 3/Triúr. A public interview will take place with Colm Tóibín and Martin Hayes followed by a Q&A with the audience. The evening will close with music from 3/Triúr. Books are not for sale on the night and people are encouraged to bring a book if they wish to have it signed by the author.
3/Triúr will play a selection of music from their self titled album, recorded a year ago it features16 tracks of 19 new compositions composed by Peadar O’Riada, recorded in Peadar’s home, An Draighean in Cul Aodha, Co Cork. The title 3/Triúr refers to the three virtuosic musicians involved, Peadar on concertina and Martin Hayes and Caoimhín O’Raghallaigh on fiddles.
All three have individually made their own mark playing Irish music and now collectively have created a new inheritance for future generations with an extraordinary array of new compositions by Peadar. This concert promises to be a truly rare musical treat as the trio unite for the first time since the release of their debut album, prior to heading back to Cul Aodha to record a second. Peadar will be performing a new tune, which will get its first airing at Galway.
Tickets are €25.00 and are available from Cancer Care West and the Radisson Blu Hotel, Galway. For further details contact 091 545000 or email [email protected]
