Measures must be put in place swiftly to ensure pedestrian and motorist safety on the Seamus Quirke Road at the Aldi junction.
This is the view of Labour councillor Colette Connolly who is calling on the Galway City Council’s Director of Services Ciarán Hayes to implement such measures.
Cllr Connolly says that, despite assurances at Monday’s city council meeting that adequate provision for pedestrians would be addressed by Coffey Construction, “there has been no action”.
As a result she has requested that temporary road markings be put in place to facilitate pedestrians and motorists.
“The current situation with the non-operation of the lights is treacherous and cannot be allowed to continue,” she said. “The council from the very outset should have adequately ensured the developer guarantee the safety of all road users at every stage of the project.”
