Saw Doctors and Petula Clark ‘to go Downtown’

The Saw Doctors will today complete filming of the video for their reworking of the classic 1965 hit ‘Downtown’, which will also feature the song’s original singer Petula Clark.

The Docs were around Shop Street yesterday evening and will be back again today to work on the video, which is being directed by Eugene O’Connor, who has also worked on Fr Ted and MTV Awards.

However it is not only The Saw Doctors who will be appearing in the video as it will be a duet with its original singer Petula Clark. Last week, Docs’ Davy Carton and Leo Moran travelled to Paris to meet with Petula for the filming of her part of the video.

Shamtown Records are planning to release ‘Downtown’ on Friday December 9 in Ireland and Monday December 12 in Britain.

The idea to record the song came from the response that it received from audiences when the Docs incorporated a segment from it in the middle of their humorous hit ‘The Hay Wrap’. Docs producer Philip Tennant is also friendly with Petula Clark’s manager, John Williams, and so the idea to record ‘Downtown’ as a duet stated to take shape.

The Saw Doctors will begin a 26-date Irish and British tour to promote ‘Downtown’ this Saturday at the Academy in Dublin.
