Taoiseach Kenny to visit Galway to honour Padraic

Fine Gael may have died a death at the polls in last week’s presidential election but it will be celebration and not mourning that will be on party leader and Taoiseach Enda Kenny’s mind tomorrow.

Taoiseach Kenny will is coming to Galway to attend a celebration dinner to acknowledge the success of the General Election which saw two Fine Gael candidates - Brian Walsh and Sean Kyne - elected as TDs to Galway West for the first time since 1982.

The dinner will also acknowledge the contribution made by former Galway West TD Pádraic McCormack. Mr McCormack served for 15 years as a councillor on Galway City Council and Galway County Council, as well as being mayor of the city from 1992–1993.

He was elected to Seanad Éireann in 1987 and became a TD in 1989, successfully represented Galway West and Fine Gael at every election until 2011. He was also a former chairman of Fine Gael Parliamentary party.
