Intensive course helps students prepare for medical schools entry exam

Yeats College is now taking bookings for its intensive course which prepares students for the admissions test for entry to medicine in Irish universities.

The two day HPAT preparation courses will take place at the private school’s premises on College Road on December 10 and 11 and January 7 and 8.

They are delivered by a team of medical, mathematical and educational professionals and provide students with an in-depth understanding of the challenges posed by this compulsory requirement for entry to Irish medical schools, says a spokesperson for Yeats College.

Speaking about the course, Dr Eamonn O’Shea of the Claddagh Medical Centre says it will guide students to a deeper understanding of the demands of the examination.

“In conjunction with my colleagues on this course we provide students with a measured and thoroughly researched approach focusing on logical reasoning and problem solving, interpersonal understanding and non-verbal reasoning which are the three sections in the examination.

“We will also be placing a major emphasis on timing and technique to ensure that students are prepared to complete all questions within the time provided. We aim to demystify the HPAT for attendees by breaking the exam down into its component parts and giving a clear, step by step approach to questions. Feedback from previous participants has been very positive.”

Yeats College says its course delivers a “unique and effective multi-disciplinary” approach providing intimate familiarity with the challenges presented in the February 25 assessment. “The course allows students to fine tune the strategies needed to maximise potential.”

Although taking place over two days it says the course is a three week long journey of preparation consisting of the provision of a detailed course outline in advance which includes an overview of the test, sample tests and relevant techniques which need to be adopted to maximise potential.

On completion of the course, students will be sent an additional test to increase familiarity and improve speed and the other essential skills.
