The first Galway Special Babies fashion show takes place this Sunday in The Ardilaun, and is being organised by parents of babies who were born prematurely at University Hospital Galway.
Catwalk Model Agency will host the show which will feature consultants, doctors and nurses from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit as well as parents of premature babies.
Children who graduated from the Galway Unit will also be showcased. Clothes will be exclusively supplied by local Galway fashion shops only.
Every year, 4,500 babies are born prematurely in Ireland. The Galway Special Babies Fashion Show organisers will use all of the proceeds to purchase vital equipment for the Special Care Baby Unit in Galway. An incubator will be on display at the event to create awareness.
A book entitled Tiny Footprints will go on sale on World Premature Birth Awareness Day on November 17, featuring stories of 80 families and their experiences of premature birth, including stories from Galway parents.
The Ardilaun will have a special lunch offer for people attending the event.
