Galway artist seeks public support

County Galway artist Ceara Conway is seeking to raise more funds for a three month residency she will soon take part in in Los Angeles.

Ms Conway, who is from An Cheathrú Rua, has been invited to take part in an artists’ residency programme with the renowned Los Angeles based public artist Suzanne Lacy.

The residency will focus on the creation of new work while Ceara will also assist on Lacy’s forthcoming project, Three Weeks In January, which will be exhibited in the Los Angeles’ Getty Museum next year.

Ms Conway, who also works in the field of public art, has received a percentage of her funds from the Arts Council but is hoping to raise more funds through the Fund:It website - a new initiative run by Business to Arts, which offers people the opportunity to get involved with creative projects in return for rewards.

“I will be creating an exciting new body of photographic work and will be offering these in exchange for support to my project,” she says.

Ms Conway has just completed a public commission for Offaly County Council and is currently working with the Galway Hospital Arts Trust.
