The first in a series of public talks on cancer will take place on Wednesday October 26 at Galway football headquarters in Loughgeorge.
The free public talks, hosted by Cancer Care West in association with the Galway Football Board, are open to the general public and will focus on prevention, early diagnosis, and treatments for various types of cancer. Issues relating to the psychological effects of cancer and available services will also be discussed. The two expert speakers are Mr Eamonn Rogers, consultant urologist at Galway University Hospital, and Dr Helen Greally, director of psychological and support services at Cancer Care West.
Richard Flaherty, CEO of Cancer Care West, said the two organisations plan to hold several more public talks throughout Galway.
“When we initially teamed up with Galway football we felt this was a great opportunity for both organisations to work together to promote greater awareness regarding cancer, the benefits and importance of early diagnosis, and information on the services we provide to those affected by cancer and their families in the west of Ireland. We intend to roll out a number of these talks across the county in the coming months.”
This is the second event Cancer Care West and Galway football have organised since forming a new partnership. Earlier in the year they organised a sponsored 5,000km walk throughout every parish in county Galway with the €145,000 raised divided between both organisations.
