DES BISHOP is about to release two new DVDs and he will be in HMV Galway on Sunday at 4pm to sign copies his new releases and meet the fans.
Des’s new DVDs are Tounges and In The Name Of The Fada. Tounges is made up of two parts - ‘Tongues’ and ‘Teanga’. Part one is the live show in which the New Yorker explores his identity. With his blistering observational comedy he covers Irish Catholicism, illegal immigrants, and recent trips back to America. Part two was filmed in February 2008 and charts Des’s experiences of learning Irish and includes a performance of ‘Jump Around’ as Gaeilge.
In The Name Of The Fada is the DVD of the acclaimed six part RTÉ comedy documentary series, covering Des’s attempts to learn Irish in Connemara. His ultimate goal is to reclaim the tradition of seanchaí in its modern incarnation – stand up comedy – through the medium of its native tongue.
Extras of unseen footage include interviews with Ryan Tubridy and RnaG, visits by Irish speaking Santa and Des’s parents from NYC, a day on the bog, and audience interaction at his first ever gig as Gaeilge in Rathcairn.
Des will be performing his new show at the Town Hall in January.
