Lands with a historic link to the Galway Races will be auctioned for sale on November 4 in Oranmore.
In 1859 the Galway Races were held on part of these lands, and to date one of the jump fences can still be seen. At this time it was a two day flat and steeplechase meeting. The Midland Great Western Railway Company sponsored £260 to the race committee and it was a successful meet for seven years. Eight years later the meet was moved to Ballybrit to become the famous Galway Races.
The lands for auction are being sold in three lots.
Lot 1 is c10 acres at Moneymore East. This will prove popular as it is a small parcel with 550ft of road frontage.
Lot 2 is c28 acres at Moneymore East with dual frontage and excellent quality lands.
Lot 3 is c26.55 acres at Bushfield and has 650ft road frontage.
The road frontage will be of added benefit to potential purchasers who are from the area and fulfil the essential housing need criteria.
The agent, Joe Greaney of Keane Mahony Smith, expects keen interest for the lands which will be auctioned on November 4 in the Oranmore Lodge Hotel at 3pm. Mr Greaney said he has already noticed a high level of interest among potential purchasers. “The lands are in a great location less than two miles from Oranmore village and in lots which should accommodate most interested clients, we are delighted with the response so far,” he said.
