The Salthill-Knocknacarra minors under the guidance of Sean Armstrong, Mark Butler and PJ Kelly had a big and well-deserved 4-12 to 1-7 win over Corofin in Saturday’s county minor A final in Tuam.
The young city men were skilful, strong, well-coached and very committed to the cause. County minor Gearóid Armstrong hit 1-8 (7fs ) and gave a very fine performance.
They were very strong down the middle and Gearoid Canavan, who will line out with their seniors this Sunday, team captain Robert Butler, Mattie Heskin and Sean Hughes had fine games. The impressive Jack Killeen played a great game as sweeper and read the game very well.
There was no obvious weak link in the Seasiders’ starting XV and players such as Evan Wynne, Evan Duffy and Brian Seagrave who notched two goals also caught the eye.
Corofin never really recovered from a horrible start and, despite the best efforts of full-back Cathal Reilly, Ian Burke, Conor Cunningham and Martin Farragher, they were always chasing the game.
