CATHY DAVEY will launch Play Irish in Galway tomorrow, a new project designed to increase support and airtime for Irish bands and singers, on Irish radio stations.
Play Irish is the brainchild of Sinéad Troy, and the first project of the newly launched Irish Association of Songwriters, Composers and Authors. The project is heavily supported by Galway Bay FM’s Jon Richards, who will choose the Play Irish Galway artists featured on his show.
Play Irish Galway involves highlighting music from a highly regarded Irish artist to the Galway public through regular radio play and a live session on Jon Richards show; the artist will also be played in the Róisín Dubh, Monroe’s, HMV, and Bell Book & Candle; and reviews of the chosen artist for the week will be encouraged in local media and music blogs.
Music promoters, venue managers, and music stores across Galway have all signed up make this work. “This initiative will help us all,” says the Róisín Dubh’s Gugai. “We already showcase great Irish artists in Galway and the support of Play Irish will be very welcome,” says Monroe’s Gary Monroe.
