Strange Brew 450th Night

STRANGE BREW, the Róisín Dubh’s showcase for “indie beats, alternative rock and good vibrations from the past, the present, and the not too distant future” celebrates its 450th night next week.

The 450th takes place on Thursday October 20, starting at 8pm and featuring a line-up of some of the most exciting talent in alternative pop and rock that Ireland has to offer.

Headlining will be the multi-talented Daithí Ó Dronaí, whose fusion of Irish trad, pumping techno, and math-rock has thrilled audiences up and down the country. Using his violin, effects pedals, and synths the Co Clare native creates music for the head and the feet, that is both innovative and accessible.

Also playing are Dublin trio Squarehead, whose debut album Yeah Nothing has been one of the best Irish releases of 2011. The band combine surf-rock, indie, and a hint of pop-punk to create melodic pop with catchy choruses that nonetheless still manage to have a rough and tough edge.

Another multi-talented artist for the night is singer-songwriter Elaine Mai. Elaine creates music of great emotional and melodic power. Through the use of her vocal gifts, musical sense, and intelligent use of effects pedals, she creates startling songs that build into mini-epics, full of atmosphere and choral like backing.

Also playing are We Are Losers, Tieranniesaur, Retarded Cop, Moths, The Depravations, Kid Karate, The Debutantes, and Kool Thing. Gugai will be DJing afterwards.

Admission is €10 and advance tickets are available from the Róisín Dubh and www.roisindubh.net
