Progress made on plans for new Claregalway secondary school

Progress was made this week on a new secondary school for Claregalway with officials from the Department of Education and the Galway County Council seeking a site for the building.

Earlier this year the Department of Education and Skills accepted expressions of interest from local landowners interested in providing a site for the new school.

A subsequent meeting has now taken place between the department and the council to discuss the submissions and for the council to begin short-listing potentially suitable sites.

Independent Galway West TD Noel Grealish has welcomed the news and said it is “hoped this stage will be complete within the next couple of months and the department can then begin negotiations with landowners regarding site selection”.
