Essential upgrading works to start on city’s water supply system

The Galway City Council this week began essential upgrading works to the city’s water supply network. The works are expected to last for 12 months.

The works are part of the council’s Water Conservation Project and involve the installation of new infrastructure to the existing network.

Once completed, the improved system will enable the council to monitor water usage throughout the distribution network, improve reaction time to extreme weather events, and reduce water losses through improved leak detection and repair techniques.

However the works will result in a number of water outages throughout the entire city during the course of the project.

City Hall said every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum and advance warning of the planned water outages will be given to local businesses and residents through leaflet drops as well as being advertised on local radio.

Specific, detailed, and up-to-date information about the location, dates and times of the water supply interruptions and works will be on www.galwaycity.ie The Galway City Council wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused and is thanking the public in advance for its patience “as we work to improve the water services for the city”.
