Heart Health Week is currently running at all five Evergreen Healthfoods stores and, to coincide with today’s World Heart Day, it is running an awareness campaign to promote heart healthy choices.
With approximately 10,000 deaths each year in Ireland from cardiovascular disease, heart health demands attention and exercise allied to some simple dietary choices and better nutrition can make a significant difference.
In Evergreen stores this week foods and supplements that could benefit the heart are being highlighted with heart stickers, making it easy to select the healthiest options. Stickers can be found on such staples as porridge oats, fish oils, brown rice, and walnuts, as well as on products like beetroot juice, green tea, and aduki beans.
Evergreen is also supporting Croi this week, with collection buckets in stores and promotional leaflets and information being given to customers. Staff can be seen in stores wearing CROI T-shirts, and for World Heart Day today Evergreen is donating five per cent of sales of its heart healthy products to the local charity.
Managing director Aideen Hurley is excited about working with Croi on this awareness campaign. “Cardiovascular disease is something we are all touched by, and we are delighted to be promoting heart healthy options and awareness of heart health. Partnering with Croi just seemed an obvious choice, as like us they do great work here in Galway promoting a healthier lifestyle.”
Heart Health Week continues at Evergreen until Sunday with more events planned across the stores. Friday sees an information day on fish oils, with the Eskimo-3 team in stores talking to customers in the Galway Shopping Centre and Barna branches about fish oils and plant sterols for heart health.
On Saturday, it will host free heart health consultations with nutritional adviser Rick North in the Mainguard St and Galway Shopping Centre stores. Call in to either store today to book an appointment.
